Ottawa Micro Wedding – Amber + Kyle

I would never consider myself a “cool” person. I’m more of a “hot mess trying to masquerade as put together” person, so when I get couples like Amber and Kyle, I get really excited. Amber called me and told me all about their romance, the micro wedding plans at Orchardview, and their families. I just knew that this was going to be the raddest, most amazing wedding of the year.

December quickly approached, and their wedding did not disappoint. This Micro Wedding was everything I needed to finish off my season, kick off my full time status and end the turbulent year that was 2020.

What is a Micro Wedding?

The lines between elopement, micro wedding and intimate wedding are often blurred. It’s important to note and a Micro Wedding is a celebration with between 15-50 guests.

These  unique and intimate gatherings are becoming more popular. As a result, my love for them has grown exponentially during the COVID-19 Pandemic. I enjoy them primarily because they bring the focus back onto what’s most important during a wedding: the couple.

The biggest advantage to a micro wedding is that you are saving money on your guest count and catering, so you can spend more on the things that are important to you.

2555 Days and Counting

Amber and Kyle got together seven years ago. Ironically, they met at a “getting over my ex” party. When she spotted Kyle, she pursued him right away, Kyle was hesitant because he was a little shy. Not that you could know that based on their wedding images. They are totally smitten all these years later on their big day.

Amber got ready at Orchardview in their beautiful bridal suite, on-site. While the guys struggled to get their ties on, Amber shimmied into her stunning dress and got her cathedral veil on. Emotions ran high all day as friends and family gathered around them to celebrate the event.

Having survived not only a pandemic, but planning a wedding in the middle of a pandemic, these two are the definition of perseverance. Their relationship is a little rock and roll, with a whole lot of love.

After 2555 days, they were finally able to make this day happen, despite all the problems that life has thrown at them. No pandemic was going to stop them from getting married. They took every possible precaution to keep everyone safe and had a beautiful day in unprecedented times.

Having recently lost his grandfather, Amber knew that she needed to do something special for Kyle. So she had a surprise made for him and told me all about it before hand. She had a special watch made with a portrait of his grandfather on the face of it. The watch was given to him before the ceremony and words could not describe the gesture.

It was an amazing day with the best people I could ever ask for as clients. Their relationship is exactly why I do choose to do this day and and day out.

Orchardview Micro-Wedding

This wedding had so many personal touches that my heart exploded. I refer to them as my “cool couple” because not only did Amber have the most wicked pink hair, she had an embroidered leather jacket that fit her like a glove, a custom veil designed by her father and executed by Sinders, with the most wicked platform heels to match her hair, AND her brother is better known as the Barhaven Derby Car. So these two obviously used it as their getaway vehicle, it could not have been more perfect.

I love the amount of care and detail that went into this wedding. Every little piece of decor, every vendor and guest was chosen to make this day as special as possible.

As always, the vendor team who came together made this wedding unique and beautiful.
